Dr. Jerry K. Radke
Jerry retired as a soil scientist with the Agricultural Research Service of the United States Department of Agriculture after 35 years of service in 1999. Jerry received his B.S. Degree from the University of Wisconsin in Soils (1960), his M.S. Degree from Iowa State University in Soil Physics and Mathematics (1962), and his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin in Soil Physics (1965). His research concentrated on soil physics and micrometeorology (interaction of crops and weather) at Morris, Minnesota; Adelaide, South Australia; Kutztown, Pennsylvania; and Ames, Iowa. He also was involved in research conducted in Cali, Colombia and St. Petersburg, Russia. In 1997 he co-organized an international "Seasonally Frozen Soils Symposium" held in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Jerry lives in Nevada Township with his wife, Susan, who works with the Naval ROTC Unit at Iowa State University. Since retirement, Jerry occasionally helps teach courses at Iowa State University, the latest being a course on Meteorological Instrumentation. He stays busy with the Nevada Lions Club and Memorial Lutheran Church. Jerry started his second four-year term as a SWCD Commissioner in January 2005.
